Anyone know of a FREEWARE utility that will convert image files, (JPEG,TIFF, BMP etc. ) to .PDF format?
I'm looking for a new scanner and noticed that HP ( but I don't think anyone else) provide the ability to scan images into .PDF format on some models so wondered if there was a utility that would do the same.
Don't often need the option but it would be nice to have it, just in case.
Do you have Acrobat Reader? I don't think you can do so with the free version. If there is such a program it might be at www.download.com.

To put something (text and/or graphics) into PDF format, get Win2PDF freeware at http://www.daneprairie.com.
Small graphics (I made a business card template for a print shop with a TINY logo) will look pretty nasty (pixilated, fuzzy, etc.) but they print out just fine.
And here's the method I use to modify PDF files:
To edit it, copy and paste the document on a word processor software such as Microsoft Word. In order to so, complete the following steps:
1. Download, save and open the pdf file.
3. Once the document is opened, choose the "Continuous reading" (mine says "Continuous - Facing") option in the "View" menu, then use the "Select all" option of the "Edit" menu.
4. Then copy the whole text by using the "Copy" option in the Edit Menu.
5. Paste it in the word processor software of your choice.
6. Use Win2PDF to convert it back to PDF format if you like.

Tiberiuscan...searched download.com and there are a number of progs available most of which are shareware or commercial(?). Did however find PDF Image Stream. The FREE version allows convert from JPEG to PDF. You can also convert other formats but a watermark is added to the document.

I'm running Windows ME so not sure if it would work for me. If you know different can you let me know.

Must confess I thought Ghost Script was soemthing to do with Amigas but I'm probably wrong.
Did see that 602Pro print pack mentioned by usamrohm is still available as a free trial then $20 so may download just in case I need it.

If you have any questions about wonderinguy34's link, feel free to ask them - I'm still around. :) Unfortunately I can't easily regenerate those screenshots - there's no generic PostScript driver for Windows XP yet that I've seen.
And yes, it is rather long and complicated, but the free all-in-one programs really weren't around then. If you can find one of those that does the job, it's probably a better option than GhostScript and GSView.

It requires that you install a PostScript file writer, but you can do this without owning any PS printer.

Been to ZipGuy site (very useful) and downloaded Free PDF v0.95 but some of the links are out of date. Have ferreted around and I hope I've found the latest version of Ghostscript (7.03) and Redmon (1.5) so will take a look later.
If I need further help on links etc. I come back.
Forget to ask in my last post if there would be any problem with any of the progs when running Windows ME?

Win 9x/ME runs fine. So does Windows NT/2000/XP (see below)
There also are instructions there, exclusivlely, for installing and configuring on Windows NT/2000/XP. Many customers are happily using these OS's with Free PDF. Since Free PDF is written in compiled TCL (source code included), the same executable works on all Windows Platforms.

There is a newer release v0.98f Private Beta (fall/2000) with more features at the site. And a enhanced verstion, with full control over Ghostscript PDF Generation switches is in the works now.
