Hotmail Spam
I'm writing with a question regarding spam in my Hotmail account. I read earlier posts a few weeks ago about changing your birthdate to make you under legal age to stop the porn spam. I tried this and still get a large number of these annoying ads. I have tried going to the end of the individual e-mails and clicking on the "unsubscribe" link, but on the porn ads, the link always seems to not be a valid one. For now I go and block each one but they have unlimited addresses it seems from which they send this garbage. I do use the junk mail folder and unless an address is in my personal address book or on my safe list, all spam gets put into this junk folder, but it still fills it up and wastes my available space. Any other advice would be very welcome and appreciated!
Thanks!

Re: Hotmail Spam
Hello, click on your msn pawn, then click the messages part, or go onto your Hotmail page.
Click on Options, click on your personal profile, remove the ticks in the boxes below, the three boxes, then click update.
In the members directory, untick the boxes in there, please list me in directory, ok.
Then in Junk mail filtering, choose Exclusive.
Then in Junk mail, choose an option in there, immediate if you want, ok.
Then in the Safe list, you can add all your mates and any other hotmail msn etc email address and only those will ever get through.
Hope this helps, i have only ever had ones i want to receive, no spam since.
I prefer steak.
Hope this helps, Gep

At this point there probably isn't a whole lot you can do, other than either ditch Hotmail altogether or at the very least sign up for another Hotmail account. I recommend leaving Hotmail altogether if that is an option for you. They're probably the absolute worst web based email service.
One of the reasons you're getting so much spam is because you're opening up that spam in order to unsubscribe to it. Never do that. In most cases the unsubscribe link is a scam. Everytime you do that you're telling the spammer that he/she has a live email address. They will spam you even more at that point, plus they will sell your address to other spammers. It'll probably never die down on the account/address you're using at this stage.

Hi.. clicking the unsubscribe link is never a good thing to do. It is a trick they use to alert them that someone actually exists at your email address. Hotmail antispam measures suck. Plain and simple. And as you've discovered adding the addresses manually is a waste of time because they're only used once then changed.
My advice is to get a new acc't with a better company like www.myrealbox.com and send the address to your friends and have a happy spam free mailbox.

Thanks for all the speedy and informative replies to my post! I went in and created a new account with MyRealBox and will start the process of informing contacts of new e-mail address. Once again, Thanks! I appreciate the help!
