I have been running two case fans set up like AMD suggests but the fans I have been buying locally do not last long at all.My question is what brand, type etc. of 80mm fan should I buy that will last?At least longer than 3 months !

Make sure they have ball bearing at least. The ones with sleeve bearing burn out as you Know about.Cost a couple $ more, but worth it.

Hey,thanks everyone(Wow 9000 posts !!1)
SUNON 80mm (bought from NewEgg. I have a couple of those, running smooth and quiet.
Don't forget some filter material on the intakes too. Keeps from getting too much dust inside. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

Thanks KGG.Someone else told me about Sunon fans and said they were good.I do run a filter before the fan.I tried a lot of filter materials and in desperation tried two Heavy Duty Scouring Pads-Extra Abrasive. They are cheap, washable and work like a champ!
Good idea with the filter material...
I use standard A/C duct filters, you get like 12-15 pcs. (appr. 10x25 cm) for ~$3 in any hardware store. Very inexpensive and easy to cut to size.

Heh-heh,,good go Milton.I've posted it before, and have used those lil' green "scrubbies" for quite awhile now.
Also, after cleaning,a very light spray of WD-40 helps to catch the dust n' smoke and it's non conductive... https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

runr: I am still having trouble keeping fine dust out of my computer.I just had a great Sunon fan go out because of dust.Does the WD-40 treatment work well.I really need some pointers on this one.!!!!!!!!!!
Milton
Where do you have your computer? Sitting on the floor, carpet, in a cubby hole. They all have a impact of how much dust gets into your computer. My floor has carpeting, there fore I set it on blocks so it is a minimum distance of 4 inches[10cm] off the floor.
Even then I have to clean it out monthly otherwise, I would need to do it weekly.
Hi Milton,,As Train says,be sure to get it up off of floor. Bought a cheap lil' TV stand for mine and it's 'bout 1 ½ ft. above floor. Found a better alternative to the scrubbies. The black, carbon coated filter material used in clean air machines and furnace ducts works very well. But i still use a very light, quick spray of WD-40 on them. Only drawback is once they get dirty, you can't wash them out like you can with the scubbies.
Kinda' bothers me that your Sunon fan went out in just 6 or 7 months tho'. I have a couple Sunons that have been around for over 3 years and still are going strong. If there is a smoker in your place, that can build up on the fan blades real fast. If that's the case, no matter what the brand, i'd break out the cotton swabs n' alcohol every month or so and clean them thoroughly...
Thanks everybody.I have my computer about 2 feet off of the floor on an old "ammo"box. Runr, how long do the black filters last?I have to clean my system about once every 3 weeks also and am more worried about the fans on my CPU(Athlon XP 1600) and my overclocked video card.
Milton,,I use a duct to direct the airflow from the filter which i mount behind a metal grill directly to the intake fan at case front. I had to mod out the plastic front with a 90mm hole for this, but it's not a big deal to do as long as you remove the plastic front and your case front doesn't have anything in the way directly in front of the intake fan.
The ducts are also available from Plycon(and others) and can be cut for length.
The black carbon/charcoal filters are good for about a month. Unless your environment is really dusty. But as i said, they're more expensive cause you usually have to buy them in a large sheet and it's a one-shot use. Whereas the scrubbies can be washed and re-used...
If you keep the dust away at your main air intake, that should preserve the life of(and the cleanliness) of other components also...
