Looking for a newer BIOS update to fix AutoShutdown

Hi again all, I want to update the BIOS so that hopefully my Celeron 300a will Turn its self off after selecting shutdown in Win2K/XP... at the moment it says "its now safe to turn off your PC"

is that enough info?

as u can see it got BIOS version 6110 at present (from 1998!)... the only other BIOS version i could find is 6112 (still not much newer), i tried it and that didn't help (in fact it gave me new problems so i put the old version back again)

So i am hoping u guys can work wonders and tell me if there is a newer version than 6112 that i can try, if so where can i find it?

BACKUP NOW! u can RESTORE your WHOLE HARD DRIVE and be back in minutes after any BIG Mistake!!!

You might not need a BIOS upgrade to solve that particular problem. Open your control panel, then Power Management. Under the APM tab make sure "Enable Advanced Power Management support" is checked. I had the same problem after upgrading an older PC to Win2K and this solved the issue.

Thx Blutimus, if i enable APM support then it makes Win2K and XP have a windows Stop Error on the point where it should power off... so i have to leave that disabled (i think i'll have to re-enable it when i fix the BIOS)...

I think it has the error b'cus ACPI (sumut like that) is missing from my BIOS settings... is it possible for an update to give me this ACPI support or is that just wishful thinking?

hmmm, that's kind of weird. I have a pretty similar BIOS, CPU and chipset and that little fix solved my problem. Here's my specs:

weird huh? do i really need ACPI as it auto-powers-off in Win98, i dont really understand the difference between ACPI or APM... they sound like they do the same thing to me... or is it that windows uses APM and 2K/XP use ACPI maybe?

Those questions are beyond my realm https://discussions.virtualdr.com/, but it appears the biggest differences between yours and mine is the ACPI and DMI. Our chipsets are slightly different, though I don't know exactly what the differences mean. Perhaps someone else here might be able to answer that question? Glad I could help with the program.... good luck.

another thing i'm wondering is it possible for one with high tech knowlege/programing skill to hack into a BIOS file and change it to to fix my problems, as if they could then surly some website would have a hached update available... just curious, as usual...
