LOL. I didn't think you were the type that incinerated everything around you for 600 yards when you fell.

Hi Gang, Just got in from work and saw the last thread had lost a couple of posts. Thanks DrMDJ for covering and starting a new thread. We might even have some guests tonight and they need to be able to post. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
Let's see. I physically installed a modem in BT last night just before all the heavens broke loose. Been slowed down abit because of work and getting myself up to speed on learning this here moderator job. I was not going to install a modem as these computers will be networked. Then I got to thinking that a modem would add backup capability.
News flash, IF and that's a big if, I can make a deal with my company to buy their obsolete 15" monitors what would be a good offering price and would anyone be interested in one as test monitor. No guarantee how long they would last of course. As is deal.
Spragers is getting prepared to build his computer, and running into some delay, and getting the jitters and so forth. Guess what. I been there and know how it feels. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
Until Spragers is ready this thread will be covering the progress of BT, Spragers preperation, and any issues that are of interest to whatever member has a concern.
And so we continue. Thanks again DrMDJ for filling the void. Really helps. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

I will order the fans, floppy drive, and TV tuner card tonight after my part time job. Got a bit too jittery and popped off a couple of those little metal tabs, y'all can slap me for it https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ As I now wait for the CPU and my next and final order, I will put together both a pre-build list based on bistro's List (note capitalization) and a final run-down on parts, where I bought them, what they cost, etc.
Back in about 4 hours or so.
gg1- are you running your modem cable through a surge protector in that weather? Or do you just have it installed and not connected...
I have surge protection on the phone lines as well as power lines. When weather gets bad shutdown and unplug. I am ultra conservative, but haven't been blown out of the "water" either. Looks like your doing good. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

Spragers: Forgot to mention in "my list" that if you break off those metal tabs too soon, the RAM will not counteract and the power supply will overcharge the RRGD-13 interface, thus causing a right-pod incident in the Westbridge chip configuration. Other than that, it should be OK.
I just wanted to sound "technical" for once... https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
And as dozens of lurkers scamper to update their Bistro List's to include instruction saying "Don't break off tabs...". https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

By the way, what exactly is going on with A_T_s?

noooo! hmm... tiome to find a welding torch and melt those little tabs back in place... so should I remove the power supply when doing this sort of work? https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
Seriously... I do have a question though, for the possible webcam use - I wanted to hook it up to my laptop since the other monitor will be in use on the new build. It's a Panasonic CF-35, P150 processor, running Win98 with one USB port. Installed the camera software, no problems (Intel Easy PC camera, CS110 I think). Hooked up the camera, it found the new hardware, and it is listed when connected in the device manager. However, when I run either the included intel capture programs or VisionGS webcam server, neither one can connect to the camera. I have a powered USB hub for "Q" - should I try it out on the laptop? Maybe it's not getting enough power from the laptop?
Thanks!
Have no idea. Sent some emails out. Either it was pulled with no warning to you-know who, or they're trying to move it somewhere else.
spragers: Sounds more of a software prob than power. Like to help but I don't zilch about web cams. At least for now...Howsomever, it's possible that processor just isn't adequate for the job.

Thanks. It's nice they are keeping "you know who" in the loop. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

Good Morning All, Three of us worked on the ICQ problem (I found its the Compaq) last night but still got no further with it. When someone hollers at me on ICQ, they only get the first letter of my reply. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the program as well as my contacts numbers. Nothing has worked yet.
DrMDJ, received many inquiries on what you asked about but nothing on what the problem is.
Guess it's one of those weeks where Murphy's law is in effect. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

Hopefully they'll be able to post a re-direct. Looks like that might be what they're trying to do, but the YaBB is getting in the way...
So, spragers, exactly when is this build going to take place? Again, I reiterate and again, I repeat and again, I re-emphasize and again, without trying to be redundant and again, I say again, that list is a guide only. A small rope cast to the builder in need, hanging on the edge of helplessness. It is up to the builder to fill in the details on his particular configuration. It's possible/probable that for his/her config, one step may have to come before the other, etc.. lay out the parts, study them , do a dry run, etc.. Check out the mobo manual and know where those jumpers are that you might need to readjust. Look at the order the IDE/ATA connections are--know where 1, 2, 3 etc. are located. Check it out and see if the vid card would have to be removed in order to install the RAM--will save you some grief if you happen to put the vid card in first, RAM second. Better off the other way around anyway. "Measure twice, cut once".
Thanks Goose. Gotta luv it!
