Operating Temperatures for Athlon Cpu

Does anyone have any info on the proper operating temperature range of a 1.2ghz Athlon cpu 200mhz fsb. Last night mine was running at 136 degrees fahrenheit....the ambient temp in the office was kinda high...the machine was performing fine but I am just curious as to where I should be running this at...I did not use any after market thermal paste on this because there was some preinstalled on the heatsink should I clean this off and get some arctic silver? The cpu came with a coolermaster hsf should I upgrade? and if so what do you reccomend...I have heard nothing but bad reviews on the golden orbs.

though the tbirds are rated up to about 95°c, amd recommends a running temperature of 30-50°c ... try to keep it below 60°.

arctic silver is a very good paste and should cool the processor by a few degrees (dont expect amazing rezults though).

as for a different heatsink, check amd's recommended thermal solutions list.

I have the same PCU in my latest build. The temp on mine runs between 46c-49c. I use the new Thermalright SK-6 HS with 5200RPM Sunon fan with Artic SilverII. I could get a couple of degrees cooler with the Delta high output fan,but don't want the noise https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ My personal thoughts on ANY of the "orb" 'sinks is mostly glitz n' glimmer. Read many reviews that don't think much of them.

I've got a 1.4hz, and it runs around 50C at the chip socket. It rises to 55c during heavy use (3D games). The system temperature runs around 32c. I have a Cooler Master heat sink and fan, not sure of the model number offhand.

Out of curiosity, I looked at the AMD Thermal, Mechanical, and Chassis Cooling Design Guide, and it doesn't list a socket temperature, but states that the heatsink plate temp should not be above 70c. The proper way to measure this is to drill a hole in the heatsink and install a thermocouple.

Another interesting statement from the AMD guide, regarding case fans: "A front cooling fan is not essential. In some extreme situations, testing showed that these fans recirculate hot air rather than introducing cold air". https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

1.4/266 tbird, thermaltake volcanoII hsf, arctic silver II, inwin s500 case with two extra 80mm fans. cpu temp is 45°c at idle, about 50°c under full load. system temp is normally 26-29°c.

keep in mind that this thing sits in a basement that is a lot cooler than the rest of the house.

You're right, mag, the room air temp directly affects the system temperature. The room where my PC resides was around 75-80F to get the temps I listed above. By the way, I also have an Inwin S500 with front and rear 80m fans.

I have done some experimenting tonight and I am running between 50-55 degrees celcius with the side panel on....I have taken it off and it is about 2 degrees cooler and I have also blown a box fan into it and it cools down to about 43 degrees. The ambient temp in the room is about 80 degrees fahrenheit.....I may have to upgrade the hsf
