Newish computer, Generic PC, 1.2GHz AMD Athalon, 320MB RAM, you'd think that was plenty of power, but the machine hesitates at everything. Any idea what I could do to get rid of that?
Example, I type in a password for my Network (Home) and after I type it, I look at it and have to wait for it to enter itself. It does this on almost everything. From Start-up to having multiple windows open. I have a Cable modem so I'm not sure if it's only online.
When was the last Defrag done?

Defrag. Hmmm... It was empty when I got it about 2 weeks ago, I installed minimal programs and almost 3 Gigs of Music. I am defragging now. I should be flogged for not thinking of that! I am checking the MB users guide to find out about the chipset. I don't get a message about no memory, not sure if the other applies, but how about my Virtual Memory settings, what should they be? I recall it is a percentage of something and they are to be set the same (Min and Max) and I remember noticing it was weird as it's set now.
Does not appear to be a via chipset. I looked through the book twice and could only find one reference to the chipset and it was not named, only drawn on the schematic. Any other way I can tell without taking the case off? Would it say on the screen on a restart?
A' bit more info on your system would be good. Like, brand and model of Motherboard,what OS do you use?
Lots of opinions on this, but i find that if your running Win9X, it's better to let Windoze decide what your virtual memory should be. What size hard drive and is there more than one partition? With that much music, i'd suggest putting it on a seperate partition.
