System Halt
Hi,
I've a customer with the Windows ME and everytime on bootup he gets the following error " System halt: windows failed to initalize IOS restart your computer".
This error occurs both in normal and safe mode and will not allow entry to windows. We've already tried reseting the BIOS and disabling system halts on errors and we've attempted to format and reinstall windows. (Which went through ok).
I've searched the Microsoft site for references to this problem in ME but there's no listings (only for 95/98).
My question is is there any hardware conflict known to cause this error message?
thanks in advance

Check to see what hard drive he has on there.
See This. May be that ME has the same problem.

Hi bistro,
I've seen the kb article, and like yourself thought it might still be applicable. Its a Fujitsu Hard drive and the PC is only 3 months old, so I'm sure its safe bet that I'm looking in the wrong direction. But thanks for responding!!
I wonder if the reference to IOS is actually IO.sys...if so is there anyway of loading windows ME by command prompt? It doesn't give the option like in windows98.
