Video Converter Suggestion
Hi :
I wish to find some video converter that can convert any type of video files (such as vob, wmv, avi, mpeg... to real movie file (rm/rmvb)? And I wish to ask that isn't rm/rmvb file is being compressed? But last time I use a program to convert avi movie file to rmvb file, the video file size increases. Why is it? And I'm asking if someone can tell me what type of video files is most compressed (without losing too much of it's quality)? Thanks in advanced!

Real Audio and Real Video are dying codecs. This is for a variety of reasons. The compression is really terrible even at high bitrates, and the consumer software to play it is terrible programming. For anything on the web I use a WindowsMedia codec and a QuickTime codec. Depending on the audience, it may be more appropriate to use an advanced MPEG-based codec like DivX. If you're looking for something to keep your video really crisp but still have some compression benefits, try MicrosoftDV or any of the DV codecs. They should all be cross-compatible (based on the DVCam and MiniDV standard). This is the only compression I've seen that handles recompression well. If you're planning on editing or changing colors, this is important.
I know that what you're trying to do could be accomplished with Adobe Premiere 6.5 but I'm not sure that they include RM support in the new versions.

Hi:
Really thanks a lot for replying. However, I'm not very clear that why Real audio & video codecs are dying. Thanks if you could spare some time to tell me in details. Recently I found Easy Real Converter that can convert quite a no. of video files into rmvb format & I'm satisfied with it's size. Actually I'm not really care about that the real media codec is dying. I'll keep on using it as long as it can be played on my PC and it won't be occupying a lot of disk space.

How Real Lost Its Way
http://gigaom.com/2005/06/22/how-real-lost-its-way/
Rob Glaser was busy building bowling alleys and buying shiny baubles when he should have been obsessing over his company, Real, which started out as the king of streaming media, but lost its way and handed over the lead to the likes of Microsoft and lately to Apple. Jeff Louella tells a poignant story from a user’s perspective. A story that reads more like a love affair gone wrong, ending in acrimony, recriminations and a few tears of frustration. As I read his post, I could not but help nodding my head in agreement. The company that once revolutionized the internet, is now on its way to becoming a penny stock. I wish Real Networks well and want them to know that they have changed my life forever. And for that, I will always be grateful. But as of today, Real Player will be uninstalled from my computer until they rethink and again revolutionize their product. He talked about botch decisions, and the greed which made them charge for everything on Real. Ironically, on a Mac, the Real experience is still better than Microsoft Media Player, and I still end up using Microsoft’s product. Because I feel confident that the product, despite Apple vs Microsoft skirmishes is going to be around for a while. Louella’s tome is an all-too familiar story of a start-up that once ruled the world, got arrogant and then slowly lost it all. Much like Netscape. (Let this be a reminder to all those who are current stock market darlings, for hubris, brings even greatest civilizations down!)
