    Hi gb2, Welcome to Vdr

    Download, update and run Spybot S&D, Ad-aware and CWShredder located in my sig.

    Then download HijackThis, found in my sig, extract it to its own folder and, run a scan, save the log and copy and paste it into your next reply.

    gb2, that link to uninstall isearch is a no-no anyway. An uninstall utility for something that gets installed on your computer without your consent in the first place should be approached with caution. Besides that uninstall utility doesnt completely remove isearch from your computer. Just post your HijackThis log and we will be more than happy to help you. Also, you may not even need to run HijackThis if you can get the current refernce file for Adaware. Another program to download is SpywareBlaster. This helps prevent many types of ad/spyware from being installed in the first place.

    When isearch is removed manually with HJT it leaves part of the toolbar greyed out after & the user has to go into the registry to fix it. Adaware's latest reference file now removes isearch completely without the extra mucking around. Hope this helps.

    Thnaks to all for suggestions. Problem is when I go to download Spyware etc. I get the isearch results that say no such site found-these giuys are really slick if they are blocking me from getting to these sites. Any ideas-pls. be patient as I am not an expert.

    Once you have done that you may find that your IE toolbar is greyed out. If it is then do the following.

    1. Open an empty Notepad file.

    2. Copy the following and paste it into the new Notepad file.

    REGEDIT4
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
    "NoBandCustomize"=-
    "NoToolbarCustomize"=-
    "Btn_Search"=-
    "SpecifyDefaultButtons"=-
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
    "NoBandCustomize"=-
    "NoToolbarCustomize"=-
    "Btn_Search"=-
    "SpecifyDefaultButtons"=-

    3. Save the file as 'isearchfix.reg'

    4. Double click on this file and merge it into your registry.

    Your Toolbar Options should now be available.

    If you have done nothing yet, then try downloading Adaware 6.181 & update it online. I believe that the new Adaware reference file cleans up isearch correctly.

    Love it!! First time I'd seen that list of re-directs for almost any site that could offer help. Clever developer of that particular nasty.

    while it really does not need to show up in the Hijackthis log, is harmless and does belong in the hosts file.

    I'm not sure if having Hijackthis remove that entry will wipe it from the hosts file but, if so, it should be left alone since it does properly belong in the hosts file.
