Plus! is a Pain!
Hey guys, how's it goin.
Ok, so about 6 months ago (whenever XP was released), I installed XP Pro (Bld. 2600) and Plus! a day or two later. About 1 month after install, I had to change the drive letter of the hard drive Plus! was installed on. Since I never, ever use Plus! I didn't notice any problems. Fast foward to now. I need to uninstall one of the components that comes with Plus! (that I turned on after initial installation) called Speaker Enhancement. I believe it is the source of my problems. So, today, I decided to remove the Speaker Enhancement component of Plus!. I followed the directions, and went to Add/Remove Programs, and clicked on Change. "Oooops!" XP tells me... "The installation is corrupted. (Error 1324: The path Program Files contains an invalid character.)" I sigh. Then I become angry, and I decide to rid myself of the horrible agony of bloatware that is Microsoft Plus! I click on Remove. Same error. Not to worry! I cry in one last desparate decree. I will Repair! I click on repair, and insert the Microsoft Plus! disk. SAME ERROR!!
Now, I need to uninstall this speaker enhancement, not just turn it off. (although that might help.) I found the folder where it is located, but I would rather uninstall it in an orthodox manner, because my registry has zounds of keys that pretains to some speaker enhacement, and I do not want to corrupt the installation. (even though I should be able to repair damage.)
I was going to slam a mallet through my case, but then I thought of you guys. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot!!!
Thanks.

Did you check the path that Program Files is in for the invalid character? I dont have XP, but sounds like you have an invalid character in the path which should be easy to fix.

I checked, and there are no invalid characters. I think the invalid character is the drive that got changed, for the drive letter that used to correspond to the drive that Plus! was installed on is now assigned to a CDROM drive. Should I just change the drive letter back temporarily??? Is it safe?

Windoc in Norton Utilites would also do the trick. Run it and then uninstall it.

thanks a lot gary, that regcleaner is a really powerful program. I searched and searched, and there were no entries for the enhancement or plus! However, I still find it extremely useful, and it is going to be heavily used in the future. Now, off to dig out and try Norton! Thanks again guys.
By the way Peacemaker, is that quote from Apocalypse Now?
