Can I use the operating system off my old PC on my new one.
I used to own a compaq computer, and it had win2k professional on it. Is there any way that I can use compaq's system restore cd's on my new Dell?

That would be NO!
Compaq loads a lot of proprietary stuff. I have found that issues with Compaq computers can be resolved easily by getting rid of their garbage software that insists on loading on startup

But you can try to take your Compaq Hard Drive out and connect to your new Dell instead CD-ROM and transver all data over on Dell's HD .
Edit : Oooo you said , I used to own .., so you don't have a machine anymore ?
