mouse not working on Red Hat Linux 5.2

I just finished installing Red Hat Linux 5.2 . When I start :startx , I could not use mouse, no mouse movements. How to check and where to check? I have installed generic serial mouse on com1. Any reply would be highly appreciated. Thanks..

Does your mouse work under console (not X)....if not, try to get 'gpm' and correctly configure it...this should fix your problem...

Post again if you have gpm running correctly but not under X.....

An example of a good gpm line would be....
    gpm -k ; gpm -t ms
This would kill any gpms running and run gpm with a good generic type.

Thanks for using Virtualdr, a service brought to you by the Mydesktop Network
