can't get wordpad to work with dos

some how i dumped my notepad,in the trash,and deleted it,because i couldn't get it to work with, dos,it came up cant find file ,and i saw i saved it in c:\,but dos ,\perl didn't want to get it,now i don't have anything,to work with only wordpad,which is prety,lame wwhen i save it ,it dosn't show save ,hello.txt,it just shows hello,!could be if you can show me how to ,program in dos, itself,then i wont need to save it in a word program and go to dos and type in c:\perl hello ,i can program perl in dos itself,. CAN I ???????? THANKS

you can use MS-DOS Edit, can't you?
