    Information about MSCDEX.EXE

    Hi All!
There have been many inquiries about CDROM drives in here lately, and I thought I might just put in my own $0.02, and sharing with you what I know about the mscdex.exe program

    -------------------
    MSCDEX-Version 2.23
    -------------------

These are the command line switches that I know - please correct/add, I'm always willing to learn

    Switch Description
    ------ -------------
    /D : <device name> Tells MSCDEX.EXE where
    to find device driver.

    /E Tells MSCDEX.EXE to
    use expanded memory if
    your system is using
    expanded memory.

    /L : <drive letter> MSCDEX.EXE starts at
    the drive letter
    specified.

    /K Tells MSCDEX.EXE to
    use any Kanji
    (Japanese) file
    structures, if
    present, rather than
    the default of
    standard alphanumeric
    file structures.

    /S Instructs MSCDEX.EXE
    to patch DOS to allow
    sharing of CD-ROM
    drives on MS-NET based
    network servers.

    /M : <value> Tells MSCDEX.EXE how
    much memory to
    allocate for caching
    information on CD-ROM.

    /V Provides memory usage
    statistics, such as
    how much memory is
    used by buffers,
    resident data,
    resident code.

I hope somehow, somewhere, this info has helped someone from tearing their hair out!

EDIT: okay, hopefully this clears up the emoticon problem - sorry, i had a : and a ( in too close proximity, and silly me didn't realize that it would be interpreted as a UBB code! (ie. the message below - seconds after that, i realized i could just go back and edit this message - i'm just not having a good night, me thinks i need sleep! )

    Oh rats!
I just realized that the colon and open left bracket comes out as an emoticon. I hope y'all can interpret it properly!

Igor M, is there anyway to temporarily disable the smiley UBB codes?
