add and remove programs list
have removed a program from my pc and the name of the program still appears in the add/remove list... how can i remove it from the list

You take a good word of the program name. If I have Microsoft PowerPoint installed I wouldn't choose "Microsoft".
Then: start->run->regedit->find
If you find a key containing something about your program you can delete it... Don't mess up anything though, feel free to ask about a certain key.

Safer to use TweakUI to do this if you're not confident about fiddling with the registry.
Anyone can make a mistake - to make a really good job of it use a computer.
