    cannot change display settings---HELP

am unable to change display settings . when right clicking on desktop or clicking on display in Control Panel. I get a Visual C++ runtime error mesage ..also says something about C:\WIndows\Rundll32.exe ...Improper Program Termination. When I click on okay to close the error message the icons on my desktop disappers as well as the task bar at the bottom seems like Explorer is shutting down. then I have to hit the power button to reboot Windows 98 SE ...My machine is a HP 950Mhz 256k RAM.,,etc. Any suggestions for fixing this problem. thanks. Hi,

You can get into the display settings via the control panel as well - have you tried sneaking in that way?

Don't know about your error messages though, what have you changed on your system recently? Any new programs loaded?

Also maybe you should do a System File Check and run a DEEP virus scan.

Start in "Safe Mode" and see if the more bizzare problems are gone-ie what you said happens when you right click the desktop...weird.

have not added any new software lately....did change my monitor to a 19inch from a 17 inch LCD flat panel may try system file checker as yall suggested and a deep virus scan will let you know the results. Anyone else have other suggestions on what to do to fix this problem ? could I have the wrong display monitor drivers loaded for this monitor ,,,doesnt sound like the cause to me but a shot in the dark. Hi
You could start in safe mode and check if your old monitor is stil present in Device Manager. Try removing it.
Have you installed any drivers for the new monitor - most have an installation disc with them.

    Hope this helps
