[RESOLVED] Delete search files
In Win XP is there a way to delete the file name(s) that I had previously entered in "Search for Files of Folders".
Example: When I do a file search for 'cookies', anything for which I had previously searched starting with "c" shows up below the box in which I type the file name.

Try,
Control Panel
Internet Options
Clear History
This will clear the searches as well.
or,
When you do a file search using the Search Assistant in Windows XP, the drop-down appears showing the previous search contents. To prevent that you can disable AutoComplete using these steps:
•In the Search Companion window, click Change Preferences
•Click Turn AutoComplete off

Clear the "Search for files and folders" history in Windows XP
Delete via registry,
Windows XP Search Companion:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Search Assistant \ ACMru \ 5603
In the right-pane, delete the search items
Close Registry Editor
For Windows Classic Search:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Internet Explorer \ Explorer Bars \ {C4EE31F3-4768-11D2-BE5C-00A0C9A83DA1} \ FilesNamedMRU
In the right-pane, delete the search items
Close Registry Editor
Cheers.

Thanks, Rodney M, Shinma and fink. Tried Rodney's suggestion last night - had no luck, finally decided to restore an image.
I notice on the previous OS I must have tried to delete Epson software, whenever I type anything with an "e" it show several listings with Epson and Explorer.
fink, I'll have to try your suggestion and d/l Ccleaner.
Thanks!

You could also use an alternative search app like Everything Search. It's way faster for me than the stock Windows search.

Glad you got it worked out!
And "Everything Search" is the best.
