windows xp updates
I have windows xp home.did a windows repair which worked fine.now I stated the updates and reached the point where I attempting the installation of sp2.
It all stated fine but after 12 hours it is still not installed.Surely it can not take that long.Is there a problem?

Yes, definitely It shouldn't take more than an hour or so, if memory serves. I would try installing it again.

indeed this is now the third time I try to install it and every time its the same thing.it hangs

If intent on SP2 and attempting to update using Windows Update and is failing,
You can try the Network Installation Package instead.

Check HDD with the HDD manufacturers' diagnostic utility
and
Check memory modules in use with Memtest86+, let it run overnight.
