error 2010
Hi: Just finished install of new m/b on IBM/Lenovo Thinkpad T43, 2668. Everything, at this point, seems to work ok, still have drivers to install, but am getting Error 2010 message on bootup screen: Warning: Your internal hard drive disk (HDD) may not function correctly on this system. Ensure thata our HDD is supported on this system and that the lateast HDD firmware is installed. Press Esc to continue, Pressw F1 to setup. Bought a Hitachi interenal 2.5" drive recommended to work with this computer. No updated or upgrade software was accompanied by this hard drive. Running XP Pro. Have not completed fastening keyboard, wrist rest, etc., until sure alll is working ok. Appreciate the help. Thanks, Jim S

followup
Ooops. During o/x install, the keyboard cable pullled off the m/b connector, reattached, continued to let the o/s load. Could this have caused the error? In other words, I had to reconnect the keyboard cable several times, while juggling the notebook and pressing the keys while the system was active. Would a repair be in order, or else a new reinstall?

I would start new. Probably end up having to do it anyway. But make sure the cd is clean.

Just a thought ... If the T43 originally came with a FDE (Full Disk Encryption) hard drive, does the replacement also have FDE?

learning
Hi to both. If I can get the thing to bootup again, will try the clean reload. Should of put the whole thin;g together first, before fiddling with the install, which appeared to load quite well. Was ready, you know how we get, to shout it from the rooftop: I fixed it, and it's working! However, now, on reboot attempt, the power on switch works, but nothing else does. The screen just shows horizontal lines, no action on the hard drive, and it just sits there. Disappointing! Have no idea about the FDE. The computer was a "gift", costing me nothing, but came without a hard drive, and a supposed dead motherboard. Made a deal on ebay, and for a few moments, all seemed well, that I would have bragging rights. The Hitachi drive was recommended at the replacement for the T43, model 2668, and really seemed to fit the bill on install, until the message, which was cleared by presing esc to continue, and then no reboot success. Suppose a learning experience, and frankly, I did learn a lot. Will push on and start from scratch with the m/b connections, etc. Thanks, again Jim S

restarted
Hi: Unplugged a number of cables and replugged, and managed to get a bootup. Did a clean reinstall of XP Pro, no problems, except that message still insists on appearing. When I click on ESC, the system continues its bootup and everything moves alone okay, so far. I'm going to get the drivers (have to go online, darn), and go from there. Meantime, all thoughts are appreciated. Have no idea why I'm getting that startup message, though I'm not all that familiar with the T43, though it does have a fingerprint feature, which I don't plan on inaugurating. Thanks, again Jim S

Working
Thanks, all. Yes, I went to the Lenovo site earlier, downloaded what drivers I could get, and noticed the workaround. Takes 18 floppiers, according to the site. While I have floppy access, I selected the ISO and plan to work on the "freedibe" computer tomorrow. A few drivers loaded ok, and will work on the rest, along with the error workaround tomorrow, or Tuesday. No breaks on this rebuild, none. A fight all the way! Will post back, later. Again, thanks to all. Jim S

Still trying
Hi: Just finished trying to use the ISO firmware fixer. Was hopeful, but alas: After a short routine got the message: Your drive does not require a firmware update. Rebooted, and got the message sent earlier, press Esc., etc. Not ready to give up, but have no idea where to turn next. Another hard drive? Jim S
