HP pavillion a6742p. Power's on and does not boot
Got another issue I need some input on.... Trying to fix an hp pavillion a6000(vista).
The PC will power on and the motherboard/PC manufacturer splash screen appears and freezes. The only way to get past this screen is to clear CMOS and repeatedly press the boot menu or setup keys untill it decides to work. This PC had the trojans Alureon.gen!J and vundo.gen!ap. I cleared the cmos again and powered on the pc and eventually got into the system recovery console, where I was able to reformat/install vista to get rid of that nasty vundo trojan. Now that the viruses are gone from the HD the only thing I have to fix now is that strange motherboard issue
Im thinking its a motherboard problem because it seems to only work immediately after the CMOS has been reset. Is it possible for a virus to damage the motherboard like that?

So far I have tried different RAM and a new battery, I have also flashed the bios to a newer version and still I have to reset CMOS EVERY TIME I want the PC to boot past the splash screen.
I'll be ordering a replacement MOBO sunday night. Sooo, if you have any other suggestions before sunday(14th) night please let me know!
Edit: The model number is a6742p not a6000. I would appreciate it if a mod made the proper corrections to my thread title, that way people may be able to find the solution in the future.

Thread title edited
Try disabling the splash screen in the BIOS Setup, and then you shoudl be able to see exactly where it is freezing. I suspect it is having a problem detecting a drive.

Thanks sparks but there is no option in bios to disable the screen. The hdd works fine in several pc's.
I'll go ahead and order the replacement MOBO and post back once I get it installed to let everyone know if it works or not.
Thanks again!

If you can't find an obvious splash screen entry, see if there is something like "quick boot". I've never yet come across a BIOS where you couldn't disable it, but they don't always make it obvious.

I replaced the MOBO today and the computer works better than ever now.
I honestly think one of those infections on their pc corrupted the cmos chip.

That was very common thing to happen years ago.

The computer had 400 different infections according to malwarebytes... They must of kept using the PC long after it was originally trojan'd and thats where the bad viruses must of come from.
Thanks for the help!
Im sure ill be back whenever I get stumped again

400 is less than 3200 but still enough to cause problems.
