    Slow bootup at startup

I have a inspiron 6000, 60g hd, 500ram, winxp, sp3, avast, ccleaner, malwarebytes, hijackthis, spywareblaster, startup inspector, i have 29gigs free on my hard drive.

I just finished working with Broni getting my computer clean of malware, trojans, etc.

Well things not much better. The bootup is a little faster.
If I have the browser open and hit the desktop button, the browser will go down slowly quite often.
I'm also noticing while typing this post, my cursor will move to another part of this post constantly. I keep typing where I've already typed.

The systray also loads slowly and all there is Avast, Sound, Intel icon showing I'm connect.

I'm getting no errors or blue screenss.

I don't know what it is. But this cursor thing drives me crazy.
I'm being very careful typing also.

Broni, I have not done the turning off the system restore yet, been kind of scared to do it. Not sure if this has anything to do with it.
But I have defraged and it took a long time, like 3 hrs.

    Hope you can help. Thanks.

It's not malware any more. You have too many programs running in the background. Go to Run, type msconfig, click on the Startup tab. Stop anything that you don't need running constantly. You can start any program from the Desktop or Program menu. Also uninstall the Google Toolbar and Acrobat IE Helper. Get back to me tomorrow with a new HJT log.

Here is how to check msconfig
    Start/Run and type in
    msconfig
    OK
    Startup Tab

Keep the page open then go to link below. It will tell you what all the entries are and whether you can disable them or not. It will also identify any malware. Disable everything which is not needed to run at start up
    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/startups/

Read the Key at top of page. Use the Search box at the top to check all your entries

When you reboot you will get a message saying you have started in "Selective Startup" Click "Don`t show this message again" then OK

Bleeping doesn't list everything. I also use
    http://www.pcreview.co.uk/startup/in...&Submit=Submit

    http://www.sysinfo.org/startuplist.php

I also have a master list of my own, if they miss anything.

    Slow startup at bootup

Well I uninstalled the Google toolbar, but I didn't see the Acrobat IE help in my program.

I have gone into msconfig startup and all that is checked and running now
    1. ZCfgSvc
    2. ifrmewrk
    3. ashDisp

I did read in bleeping computer that ZCfgSvc, that the intel wireless card may prevent windows updates, and right now I have windows updates that will not install. they are security updates. I've tried several times. The install will complete initialization, but not install.
I did update my Intel(R) Pro wireless 2200BG driver to the 2009 version at the Intel site. I didn't update the software.

My computer seems to bootup a little faster, The little bar goes by about 60 times before it gets to asking for my password.

Once I put in my password, the desktop icons come fast, my systray comes quick except icon that shows I'm connected. The little green one.

I'll put my Hijackthis log now.

    You did a nice job.

I've read about these, and my opinion is to leave them. But Train is free to disagree.
    ZCfgSvc and ifrmewrk.

THe ashDisp is part of your Avast/. Leave it.

    Check the box: O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [DWQueuedReporting] "C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\MICROS~1\DW\dwtrig20.exe" -t

    How's the cursor?

Any other suggestions from you, Train? Should he just rename the AcrobatHelper.dll to disable it?

    Slow bootup at startup

    Hey Foxy,

Do you want me to uncheck the 04 HKLM Micros you mentioned in the Startup?

The cursor seems to be better i think. i'll try it for a while.

Whn you mentioned the Adobe IE helper, I do see Adobe flash player 10 plugin.

    Is that the same thing?

They should be unchecked already. Just check the red one top delete it.

This is the opposite of msconfig. Checked ones get tossed when you click "Fix checked"

No. If you use Flash, you need it. But you don't need Helper running at all. That's the one you said had no entry in the Add-Remove, so I suggested just renaming the file to disable it.

    Slow bootup at startup

ok, i'm unsure what to do.

Ok this is what I have checked in startup:
    1. ZCfgSvc currently checked & should be checked
    2. ifrmewrk currently checked & should be checked
    3. ashDisp currently checked & should be checked
    4. dwttrig20.exe ? currently checked
    5. ctfmon HKCU ? currently checked
    6. ctfmon Software ? currently unchecked
    What do I do on 4,5,6 ?

Sorry if I'm a little slow.

    I was talking about HJT.

Msconfig checks work the opposite of HJT checks. If you're in msconfig>Startup, just uncheck dwttrig. which will turn it off.

Ctfmon is a Win process that keeps coming back,if you uncheck it, but it doesn't use much RAM. I just ignore it.

Reboot, check the Sys Config utility box that nudges you, and you're set.

    Startup slow

I got you Foxy. Thanks. I'll uncheck the dwttrig this evening when I get home.

Any word from Train on this acrobat helper?

The cursor thing is fine now, but the bootup is still slow compared to my desktop, which is WinXP also. And when I first open internet explorer, it takes 3 or 4 minutes to open.

I know Broni on here mentioned I only have 512 ram and could use more.
I'm just not sure if that would speed up things, such as the startup.
