[RESOLVED] Booting to the wrong drive
I've got the operating system on two disks but the system is booting to the wrong drive, I'm not getting a dual boot menu.
That's the part I don't understand, what controls which disk is chosen? Is it the position of the SATA cables on the mobo?
Thanks - rev

Is this related to your other thread here:

If so - we'll merge the threads.
If not - please describe how you got in the current situation.
If you're happy and you know it......it's your meds.

Steve:
It is related to the other thread but a new situation.
3 drives: 1) booting fine, 2) functioning properly and 3) was a system partition I couldn't format in Disk Manager.
I formatted 3) with Windows 7 Setup and installed the OS. The plan was to boot to 1) and then delete all the data on 3) or format it using Disk Manager.
The problem is, it constantly boots to 3) now and does not give me a choice. That's the situation, it doesn't help much to know how I got there.
I'll be happy to move cables if that's going to make 1) seen as the boot drive of choice, but I'd like to know if it's going to make any difference before I start. Also, if I get 1) to boot by pulling the other cables out and moving 1) to different locations, what's going to happen when I plug 3) back in?

I got out of it. If you install a number of OS's on different drives, the last one installed is considered the current C: drive.
All I had to do was reinstall the OS to the drive I wanted to be the boot drive. That worked. Then I could get rid of all other unwanted OS's
Shuffling the SATA cable locations didn't work, neither did changing the boot sequence. It appears that the current C: drive is determined by the most recent installation and if that disk isn't second on the list (after the CD ROM drive) another disk won't work even if it contains an operating system.
There's probably a better answer than that but that's what I did to get out of it.
