DVD player will not open!!
Help, help. It's done this to me before. The only thing that worked then was smacking it on the side of the case. But it doesn't work now. Plus if I go to the device and choose the eject menu item, it doesn't.

Look on the front for a tiny pin hole. If you straighten a paper clip or similar you can push it straight in and open the tray. It may just be stuck and opening it will fix it for a little while but if it keeps sticking there's little you can do long term to fix it except replace it.
Paying someone to fix it would be more expensive than buying a new one in most cases.
I've also had some success in using duct tape to pull out a stuck tray.

DVD problem resolved
My computer spent a couple days in the shop. I thought my hard drive was failing, but they said no. It had some viruses and video problems. It took a notion to shut down every so often when it felt like it!! The fan wasn't working, for one thing, and needed to be dusted out when a new one was installed.
The DVD is working now.!!
