Split 1 monitor into 2 applications or convert .vob to .wav?

I would like to run a word.doc on MS Word 2007 and Windows Media player at the same time on the monitor in Windows Vista, or at least see the Windows Media play/pause button at the same time as the Word doc on the same monitor.
I am transcribing a lecture that is playing in Media Player, and it would be much faster if I could hit pause-play in Media Player without maximizing Media Player.
Alternatively (I'm not very DVD play/burn savvy), can I convert the .vob files to .wav files? That way, I could play them through my transcribing software.
Thanks! I'm feeling really dumb right now.

The Pause button is available in Windows Media Player in Compact mode. It's the big blue round button with two vertical bars on it, right in the middle of the compact player.

While you are playing the .vob file in windows media player, you can use any audio recording program to record its audio.

    I use audiograbber ( http://www.audiograbber.com-us.net/ ), or portable audacity ( http://portableapps.com/apps/music_v...acity_portable )

Just start the video playing, and in audacity, hit the record button, when finished hit stop and file - export as wav

In audiograbber, MP3 - grab to wav, file - line in sampling, name the track, hit record while mediaplayer plays the video.

There is no such thing as overkill. 'Open fire' and 'is it dead?' are the only sane options when threatened.

Thank you, SpywareDr and General Winters, for answering my question about Splitting 1 monitor into 2 applications or convert .vob to .wav? on June 29.
I had finished (laboriously, by maximizing/minimizing/switching screens) the meeting I was currently transdribing by the time I got your answers, but I do minutes for meetings for a living, and am sure I will have need of your answer in the future.
