More fun with Swedish Compaq Armada
Ok. I installed win98 on the notebook. I tried to install the compaq softpaqs on a cd-rw but windows will not recognise the cd drive when this disc is inserted. Is this because I need the cd driver softpaq installed via interchangeable floppy drive beforehand ? Do I in fact need any compaq softpaqs now or does win98 se provide everything required and make this exercise a waste of time ?
Also the keys do not all type the characters as printed on them. I am assuming this is because i should have reformatted the hard disk and installed win98 choosing swedish as the keyboard option. (It appears to be impossible to change the keyboard language in windows although it seems to give you the option and I chose english when installing.)

Hi ronnikk
Keyboard --
You could try start/settings/control panel/regional settings and select ENGLISH from the drop down menu. Windows will probably then ask you for the Windows CD ROM and should install the English settings from there.
Hope this helps

Your cd-rom will never be able to read that disk unless, with newer cdrom can read them if you have the same program installed on you computer. Now if it was a data cdr, should be no problem.

A lot of those softpaq's are not needed, TRUE.

Softpaq's are Compaq's way of fixing [how they think it should be fixed] for messing things up when they made the computer.
What is below , if you had a restore cd for the computer and do a format you may wind up with having to chace those drivers and things down to get it to work. Compaq is very propietary in that regard.
