Have a question regarding the above topic..... Someone I know has this pc and the ps is definitely gone.. MB unsure yet. There is an online storethat sells the mb, ps, and case for 170.00...... In the event the mb is gone also ( which I have read power supplies have done so ) is it possible to order this replacement and install his original HD? Sounds dumb, but I just thought I would inquire..
I would question whether $170 is worth it for a PC of that age and spec though. If you can borrow a PSU from somewhere I would try that first to see whether it has taken anything out with it, if it only needs a new power supply then it would be an economic repair IMO, otherwise I'd write it off.
For someone (like say Mom) that doesn't do much more than surf sites like Overstock, HomeShoppingNetwork and Amazon, do some email, view photos, maybe burn a DVD or two, etc., what else do they really need. At a measly $299 it's almost like an appliance such as a toaster, VCR/DVD player, microwave, TV etc.. Who cares what's inside. Does it work?, great; no?, get another.
Greetings,, Today 12/01. I swapped the power supply from a working machine and slipped it into the EMachine...... and the power light came on MB. I pressed the start button with no response. I did discover that if you remove the main MB connector and replace the cpu fan will run. No graphics on the monitor.... I cannot hear activity from the HD. But the HD light stays on continuously....... So at this point Im leaning to a bad MB.... Input greatly appreciated.. Thanks
I would say that is about par for the course when one of those crappy Emachine power supplies fails, they usually take out the motherboard, and maybe a few other bits too.
