Can't UNISTALL or RE-INSTALL AVG 7.5
Help...I updated my free AVG to 8.0 and had some problems with it. So performed a system restore to the old one and now I can't open it. I tried unintsalling teh AVG 7.5 and its says "Could not initialize AVG kernal interface."
I tried going into the control panel to uniinstall--did not work.
Tried SAFEA mode...did not work.
Tried using CC cleaner to run installer...did not work.
Tried systme restore back to v8.0...did not work.
PLEASE...I just wan tthe AVG to work or unistall!! What can I do? Thanks

I had problems with installing AVG 8 on my Vista, and XP, and it looks like we're not the only ones.
I got rid of ver. 8, and went back to ver 7.5

Have you tried this:
http://www.grisoft.com/ww.faq.num-1119#faq_1119
Question: Are you using Spy-Bot Search & Destroy with TeaTimer enabled? If so TeaTimer might be your problem. It locks the registry.

This is what me, and my friend went through:

He is computer savvy, as well.
The result after couple of hours of trying - nada.

I've been reading around the web that people have gone as far as reformatting their hard drives to get rid of AVG 8. That's not a good sign. I'm staying with version 7.5 for as long as I can.

I would try the AVG uninstaller, not add/remove, the one that came with the program. jmtjet gave that link.

I tried it, as well. No go.
You better tell me about some way I didn't try.
I spent couple of hours the other day, trying to employ all my knowledge, and I came up empty.

I have no other ideas except to try avg knowledge base or support. Perhaps they have a forum like this. There may also be a removal tool from avg. Other programs have specific tools to remove their products.

The above link may be of some help.

Glad the problem is solved. I believe I had problems with Threatfire also, but with another AV program.

So are you saying Threatfire for all its bluster actually blocked the install Broni?
From their website..........Gee and I thought signature technology was A1 how wrong can you be

ThreatFire is unlike traditional antivirus products that rely on old fashioned "signature" technology and require updating every time a new threat occurs

Definitely, because I had it on both, XP, and Vista, and without uninstalling it, neither AVG, or Avast would install properly.
