Video Driver Hell For Dell 2400
Loaded Vista Ultimate on a Dell Dimension 2400. Every driver was fine except for the Video Card. I am stuck in 640 x 480. I put my Dell service tag in on Dell's website to get an upgraded driver for Vista 32 bit and guess what, They don't have one! I am stuck in video driver hell for now.

Is this onboard video, or is it a separate card? If it is separate, do you know what card it is?

It's onboard video. Came stock with the puter. I will boot back into Windows XP Pro and see what the name of video card is.

There is a driver for that controller listed here. It's worth a try, as you have nothing to lose:

The driver for Windows XP from the Dell website worked. I never even considered trying that. The driver from Windrivers did not work. So my display problem is now fixed.
I probably should start another thread for this but while I am at it how come I can't access certain folders such as the Local Setting Folder. I have show hidden files and folders turned on.
When I try to access the local settings folder I get a message that says "Location Is Not Available" C:\Users\Ultimate\LocalSettings is not available. Access is Denied.
Do I have to enable something to access folders such as the Local Settings folder?

ginky4--I have no directory named C:\Users. I do have C:\Documents and Settings\All Users. And I have a Users folder under NetFramework v2 and in one of the tax programs installed on my PC. The latter is fairly obscure (TaxWise) and I doubt you would have it. In either case the Users folder is buried in the directory tree and not close to C:\.
Have you accessed this folder before? If so what program is it from?
Note the message title bar says the "Location is not available". Perhaps a corruption or something you deleted?
Or you could scan for malware.

ginky4--In WinXP when access is denied, you often have to "take ownership" of a folder.

I have no idea whether this works for Vista.
Or if this started only recently, you could try System Restore.

This is a brand new install of Ultimate as of today. The only thing I did not do was activate Windows Vista Ultimate. I am not sure which one of my computers I want to run Ultimate on so I did not enter the product key during the install. I don't know if this has anything to do with not accessing these folders or not.

I figured out how to access these folders that I wasn't able to access before. Specifically the Documents and Setting and the Local Settings folder.
By default , it looks like Windows Vista sets security on these folders to Deny. You have to enable permission before you can access them. So what you do is Right Click onto the Documents and Settings Folder under the Windows Explorer Tree. Next you select the Security Tab. Then click the Advanced Tab. You will see that the folder permission is set by default to Deny. Select Edit and then select Allow under Full Control for Everyone. You will then be able to open the folder.
