Resolved [RESOLVED] Dell Machine Power Problem

I have a Dell Optiplex GX270 That when it boots to windows it powers down
And I get a thermal error at boot up. But in safe mode it will stay on all day.
I replaced the Power Supply and did not work.
Sometimes before I even log on it powers off.

    Hi

Open the case and have a look on the motherboard for any domed or leaking capacitors, like the ones below

Is this machine under warranty? If so ring dell support and they will replace the board.

It could aslo be a power supply problem. If you have, or can borrow, a multimeter, here's how to test a power supply:

    Testing PSU voltages

Or alternatively you can buy a proper PSU tester, they don't cost much:

    PSU Tester

    ATX12V PSU Tester

In Safe Mode a lot of stuff is not started, thus not taxing the mobo [motherboard]. It takes a big load off in other words.

Be aware that replacing motherboard capacitors is not a straightforward soldering job. Motherboards are multi-layer, and "through soldering" techniques may be needed. There are specialist firms around that can replace mobo caps though.
