Problem in opening My Network Places
I have couple of computers at home connected by a router. One machine has a weired problem. It's Windows ME machine. It can browse internet, and being seen and accessed by other computers. However, when I double click My Network Places in it, it displays "Explorer has caused an error in SHELL32.DLL. Explorer will be closed." Then the My Network Places closes immediately. I tried to uninstall TCP/IP and the network card driver, same thing. Disable Sygate Personal Firewall (orginal setting: normal and which works for long time) and AVG, same results.
Any suggestion is appreciated.

If you need full functionality, I would grab your ME CD and overinstall or repair. Networking is so fickle in ME, the easiest way to fix most problems is to start fresh.

Thanks, ProfessorU, I'll do that and then post back the results. But I'm quite busy right now, may take some days to do the re-install/repair.

ProfessorU, I re-install WinME and problem is still there. During the re-installation, the computer needed re-start computer in the mid of run, Windows protection error saying that Error in initializing PPTCHAD.vxd. I can only boot to safe mode and use msconfig to disable this vxd and then re-start. Re-installation is then completed. After boot up in normal, I enable the vxd again and re-boot. No Windows protection error anymore.
However, double click My Network Places still generate the error in SHELL32.DLL. No problem in Internet and OUtlook Express. One more thing is that when I view the network places from other machines, I can see an extract folder shortcut called Target in every shared folder in the problematic computer which I never seen before.
Thanks for your advice.
