Resolved [RESOLVED] 'System' takes up 100%!!

Been having some problems lately -.- My 'system' is taking up almost all my CPU. Yes, it IS 'system' and NOT 'system idle process'. YES, I have run several AV and malware scanners (Panda and TM online, AVG, Spybot, Adaware, and Microsoft AS Beta1.) But for some reason my processor indicates that it is being used 90-100% all the time. This doesn't happen in safe mode.

I was wondering if it could possibly be a windows service that can be found in MSCONFIG. I have them all enabled currently.

Any help is SOOOOOO appreciated!

Ps. i also have a hjt logfile in the hjt threads, here

Hello Jawsh

Wait and see what the experts say about your log, but I don`t see anything particularly nasty

You should not disable Services from Msconfig,
Instead go to
Control Panel/Performance and Maintenance/Admin Tools/Services
and do it there

Here is a site which will tell you what to leave running/disable

Elder Geek http://www.theeldergeek.com/s.htm

Check all your entries in msconfig too.
Again, this site will tell you what they all are.

Start/Run/ msconfig
Startup
Keep the page open then go to link below.

http://www.sysinfo.org/startupinfo.html

Read the Key at foot of page, then click on "Here" at top. Use the Search box to check all your entries

I did many of the things the Eldergeek said to do with services, and I had not to change anything under startup, but I am still having the same problem

System Process is made up of all the “under the hood” processes of your individual system

If it doesn`t happen in Safe Mode it could be a driver.
Have you updated any recently or added any new hardware? This would be where to start looking.

Can also be caused by
Norton antivirus running in the background
Page file too small

Download this free program and see if it helps identify the problem

Process Explorer

I have identified part of it

I looked under properties of SYSTEM.

It says the culprit is... parport.sys+0xe474

The website did not offer any help whatsoever except a worse version of a task manager.

How would I update a port driver?

Here is my parallel port crap I found in system information
Name LPT1
PNP Device ID ACPI\PNP0401\4&36B16CB7&0
I/O Port 0x00000378-0x0000037F
I/O Port 0x00000778-0x0000077B
DMA Channel Channel 3
Driver c:\windows\system32\drivers\parport.sys (5.1.2600.2180 (xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158), 78.25 KB (80,128 bytes), 8/28/2002 6:27 PM)

i dont know if that will help or not

LOL Omg. you will die when you hear how I fixed this problem... All I did was unplug my parallel port to my printer and that stoped it from hogging my system... Irony eh? And its awesome cause my printer has usb too...
