If i insert the DVD into the comp it says thats windows doesnt support this format. and if i connect the cam to the PC using the USB cable, it detects it as a new drive but it again says that compatible format not found.

Use the firewire connection...it is a hardware standard used by all the digital camcorder manufacturers for data transfer.
Any software (MS MovieMaker,NeroVisionExpress,Ulead VideoStudio) should recognize the connection.

You should be able to get drivers from Sony's website. Unfortunately, each country's website has its own models and you don't say where you are, so I can't get a direct link.

The " Moved: Sony DVD Cam to PC" entry I think you're talking about just means that the thread was moved to a different forum, in this case from Digital Imaging to Multimedia.

I will repeat...if you have a newer computer (with XP and firewire) you need no drivers!
(I installed a firewire card and XP recognized it and installed the drivers-my other programs also saw the connection...when the camcorder was plugged-in)

Once you finalize the disc it should play directly in your computer's DVD drive.
