Unless you have the below requirements, you may find Battlefield 2 won't play on your computer:

    Recommended Specification Machine:
    2.66 Ghz CPU
    1024 Megabytes of RAM
    256 MB video card

Assuming you DO meet the minimum system requirements
    1. Windows XP (32 bit version) with Administrator rights.
    2. 1.7 GHz or faster processor.
    3. 512 MB or more RAM.
    4. Supported 128 MB video card with the newest manufacturer drivers.
    5. CD Version, 8x or faster CD/DVD drive.
    6. DVD version, 8x or faster DVD drive.
    7. 2.3 GB free hard disk space plus space for the Windows swap file and save data.

, perhaps one of these relates to your problem:

To get a better experience from BF:2, EAGames lists these as recommended hardware:
    1. 2.4 GHz or faster processor.
    2. 1 GB or more RAM.
    3. Supported 256 MB video card with the newest manufacturer drivers.

    Me 2!

I am having the same problem. It just started the other day which is very odd..

I have WAYYYYY more than enough power to run this game. P4 3.2 ghz, 2gigs of PC3200 DDR400 RAM, SATA II HD, and a X800 Video card with 256 megs of ram.

This isn't a incompatibilty issue.. something else is up, and it's driving me mad!!! It worked just fine the other day.. nothing has changed to the system since then!

    ARGF!

yep i play moast nights as well and when that happens just uninstal it then reinstall seems to be the only fix atmo
new patch that s due out very soon is suposed to address part of the problem

other problems are often to do with the eax sound and also vid drivers
regarding sound turn eax off totaly that often helps
    particialy with audiology cards

posiability thatthe starting vidios have been courpted somehow
    remove these by doing this
Get rid of stupid DICE, nVidia and EA movies at start -> faster load

Go to Battlefield 2\Mods\BF2\movies and cut everything into a backup folder.

that should make the game load faster and will identify if the start vids are corupted as i have seen this happen to a few people

    BattleField 2 Solution

Lol lots of unexplained solutions that dont help, here is what you need to do, since this issue has occured to most ppl i kno i decided to get to the bottom of it. Unless you have a POS s**t comp like a p3 or sumtin under 1Ghz, It is not your computers specs, video card, or drivers that are gona crash the game once u double click on the Bf2.exe but the refresh rate not meeting the supported bf2 refresh rate which is 60hz, and most ppl's comp is set higher then this so this is why you are unable to enter the game. To solve this problem, simply go to this link http://www.majorgeeks.com/RefreshForce_d1847.html and you are downloading a file called Refres FOrce which automatically forces ur refresh rate to the original settings which enables the game to run.
1.) Once you download the file run the program called ReForce.exe
2.) On the lower left you will see a "Restore Original Settings" button, CLICK IT, and click YES.
3.)Now try running the Bf2.exe and ther eyou go problem solved, but incase this dosent work, which it should, then before you run the Bf2.exe, go to MyDocuments\ folder and DELETE the Battlefield 2 folder found in there. This enables the game to restore its original settings.

    Have a dandy Day!

    PS:
To the people saying saying the 6600GT is weak and Bf2 will crash because the card is not strong enough, you are more then wrong, dont listen to comments about buying 300-500$ cards just to be able to run this game when that is not the issue at all. IF you need to upgrade all you need is RAM possibly 1.5Gb of ram or higher.

This is my setup which enables me to run BattleField 2 on High with 2x anti-aliasing wit a Rez of 1024x768@120hz which is insane graphix.

    6600GT OC (Overclocked)
    2GB RAM (OCZ Platinum)
    3400 + AMD 64
    ASUS Gold (NvidiaForce) MotherBoard

    Simple ^

    Hi and Welcome to VDr.

A Dell Dimension 3000 with onboard graphics and 512mb of memory isn't gonna run many games well, let alone BF2, your best bet would be to build a new rig as dell's use of proprietary parts will limit your upgradeability immensely.
