the new dell will be located at the cable modem location and the older system will be located 20 feet away with 1 wall dividing them.
should i hard wire the new system to the modem and have the older system wireless or just have both computers wireless.
this is my first attempt at a wireless network, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi chevytek,
You'll connect the cable/dsl modem to the WAN/Internet port on the back of the Linksys router. Any of your wired network computer will connect to any of the LAN ports.
That is up to you whether you want to go wireless or not. I have two network cards in one computer. One is a wired network card and the other is wireless. I just switch between the two. If you need to troubleshoot wireless connectivity problems, I usually do that with a wired network connection first.
If you decide to go wireless and you'll need to run the Linksys utility on the Windows 98 SE computer to configure the wireless card. Windows XP has built in support for wireless and you don't need to install any software. You can configure those options without running the Linksys software.
