when will we see MPEG4 go mainstream? (other then on the net)

when do you think that we will start seeing Digital Media encoded in MPEG4 instead of MPEG2, or at least things like satellite TV
I mean, I have seen a few anime episodes encoded with XVID downloaded using BitTorrent (they were unlicensed in the US), and they look better then DVD's.., and they were only encoded at 126KBPS to 146KBPS, DVD's are usually at over 5,000KBPS

you can tell how MPEG4 works, the low bit-rate does make some things look unclear.., when there is alot of changes in the screen all at ounce.., but when the image is basically still, the low bit-rate MPEG4 beats the crap out of the super high-bit rate DVD

I could only imagine how a 1000 or so (or even upto 5000, cause thats what we do right now) bit-rate MPEG4 would look like...
the only problem is that MPEG2 takes relatively low CPU power where MPEG4 takes much more CPU..

    thanx in advanced,
    Byan
