Works for me 3 XP fully patched systems and no problems so far all upgraded from version 6 with no errors.
Can you specify the problems your having?

when I first install it, it asks for a restart
on the boot up the computer hangs at the blue bar..
I have to hit the restart button and choose either safe mode or last good configuration to get it to start it up

If I hit last good configuration the resident sheild will not load...

I am thinking about trying avast..., might do that tonight...

\Perhaps a post in the AVG/Grisoft forums will elicite a suitable solution.

From the Grisoft AVG7-FREE forums, I see there are many glitches yet to be sorted out prior to D-Day when AVG6-FREE will no longer be supported (Dec 31, 04). I'm just glad I didn't rush to uninstall my existing AVG6 and then see how the forum rates it's functioning later in the month.
If I didn't still have my AVG6-FREE, I'd be enquiring around as to where I could get one until the AVG7 version is tweaked...then again, I think I'd be SOL.
Thing is, many folks are like me, I suspect, and have been happy with using AVG for years so don't want to have to install something else in the mean time...although there are, of course, reliable alternatives such as the ones 104456 linked to above.

newme...Sorry about that. Pull an all nighter and got AVG-6 confused with ZoneAlarm. 2.6.
Again my apologies.

Good luck
carson
