    Angry Video playback problem

    Guys,

Please help me with this - talk about frustrating!

I've got a video downloaded from the web - problem is it only plays audio.

I'm running Windows XP Pro with service pack 1 - and media player 9 - I've also installed the latest DivX codec(s).

It still only plays audio! - All I can hear is the sales guy....!

I've used a couple of programs to determine what extra codecs I need etc. and they just link me back to the Microsoft media player website, but is there a solution to this? (hopefully an easy one - I'm not that experienced with multimedia apps).

Please point me in the right direction - or is there a program out thre that 'guarantees' to play everything??

    Thanks all,

    Pilot

    Extra bit

    Forgot to add:

When the files are extracted from RAR format it appears as an avi file - but when I use a program called AVICodec it tells me the only installed supported/installed (I guess) codec is MPEG-1 audio layer 1 (whatever that means!). Is that an issue? - I've renamed the file to an MPG one and it still only plays audio.....

    Thanks again.

    Update

Thanks for the reply, but I've already tried quicktime without success. It comes up with the following error:

Couldn't open the file "River" because a software component needed by the movie could not be found".

    It won't work with it.

    Regards

    2nd update

Hi, thanks for the info, but I tried RealOne and it's the same - audio but no video......

Any other suggestions please people? I need to get this file running - but I can't get hold of the original creator to figure out whats wrong with it - typical really.

    Thanks again!

Try downloading and installing the edskes codec pak

    http://home.hccnet.nl/h.edskes/finalbuilds.htm

The basic one should be all you need. It has pretty much every codec you can think of and more.

    Thanks for the link.

However, even after installation it still fails to play the video - all I can hear is audio......

I'm at a loss now.....anything else that could work??

Is this (gspot) one of the programs you used to find out which codec you need?

    http://www.divx-digest.com/software/gspot.html

If not try it and see if it tells you specifically which one it's encoded with.

Do you have a link to the film clip? Maybe we can have a look at it as well to try and figure out what's necessary to view it.
