LAME Encoded MP3's play terrible in mp3cd players.
So far I can't seem to find the right mp3 player, CD or otherwise. The problem is that any mp3's that are encoded using the LAME Encoder which stinks. They either have a annoying churp and bleep sound on the right speaker or they play with a loud screetching noise. The Panasonic SC-AK500 Compact Stereo System plays mp3's that are encoded using the LAME Encoder play terrible there is a loud screeching noise that will keep playing, on my cheap Classic mp3 cd player I get a annoying churp and bleep sound on the right speaker. What I wan't to know is how does the IPod play LAME Encoded mp3's, does it have this problem or do they play fine. Also how do other mp3 players that you own play. Of course I can play LAME mp3's on my computer without any problems, the problems arise when I play them on portable players. I am going crazy trying to find a player that will play them fine. If they are encoded using anything else they play fine. By the way the mp3's that I download the LAME ones play terrible on portable units. Find me one that plays fine on any portable unit, cd based or harddrive based. I am using windows xp and playing it on winamp or wmp they sound fine the prob is the mp3cd players, do you know of any that will play them fine.

I have used the Archos jukebox with no problems with any encoder. LAME has probably been used to encode most of the files available on the filesharing networks. What setting are you using for LAME? This could have something to do with mp3pro, too. If the IPod had a problem playing LAME-encoded mp3s it would be a HUGE deal considering how many gearheads use both... I'm sure we would have heard about it already.
p.s. this should probably be in a hardware or software forum

you can try searching for a utility called MP3 Doctor which is available from cnet.com It'll encode/decode your mp3s to wav, then re-encode them and fix whatever distortion they have plus allowing you to adjust the output rate from 32kbps to 320kbps. It also has a batch file feature so that you can do a whole group at once.

Fixed it. I use a program cdex and after reading many message boards with similar problems playing on non pc players it said to go into the options and chose the J Stereo option and now they sound fine, no artifacts. My panasonic player which played back real bad artifacts now play Lame encoded mp3's with the J stereo perfect now. Also any mp3's that I downloaded that were set wrong I reencoded with j stereo and they play fine. I am glad now I don't have to buy and try all new hardware.
