Major download problem
I'm running IE 5.5 and Windows ME. About a week ago, I started being unable to download any kind of file from any site. I always get an error message, whether I left-click or right-click and try to save: "Internet Explorer cannot download xxxfile from xxxsite. The requested site is either unavailable or cannot be found. Please try again later." As I said, I've tried this on all kinds of files from various sites. I can browse just fine.
I haven't installed any new programs, and NAV hasn't detected any viruses. I did System Restore to a point before the problem appeared, and that hasn't helped.
At the same time (and perhaps related?) when I receive an e-mail attachment, I can open it fine, but the file also appears temporarily on my desktop. It disappears when I close out the attachment. This never happened before last week.
Any ideas on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated!

Have you set the size of your Temporary Internet Files folder to zero? It would explain the symptoms if you have.
Anyone can make a mistake - to make a really good job of it use a computer.

I just checked, and it was set at 20 mB. While I was at it I cleared my cache, and upped it to 100 mB, but that doesn't seem to have fixed the problem. Thanks for the quick reply, though!

Tufenuf,
I tried the suggestions on that page and alas, I still have the same problem. Thanks, though.

Thanks for all the suggestions, but it turned out I had a nasty virus. The next time I booted up my NAV wouldn't load, and then other symptoms (like not being able to type anything) started. I had to reformat and re-install everything, but all's well now.
