So whatever happened to the voodoo3 4000?

Just wondering whatever happened to this i remember all the hype about the voodoo3 series when it first came out. i got a voodoo 3 2000 a few weeks after release and was well happy but wanted the best the x4 agp version which never came and never really knew why. did this become the voodoo4 ?

this is what jogged my memory http://www6.tomshardware.com/business/19990128/

we used to talk about this on 3dfxgamers (i miss this site )

edit : it was also supposed to render in 32bit color and able to work in sli mode hmmm thinking about it sounding more and more like the voodoo 4.

I'm sorry to tell you this, but 3dfx is no more.

Occasionally, old prerelease hardware from their lab is auctioned on eBay for a king's ransom. Historical silicon artifacts, I guess. So the video card market is left to ATI, NVidia, and Matrox. Of course, creative labs likes to brag about video cards and never release them, but that doesn't count for much.

Maximum PC had an article a few months back about the "Last Days of 3Dfx" or something like that. It included information about their planned and unfinished projects and pictures of a few engineering samples. It mentioned an eBay auction where an ES was sold for some big $.
