I have a friend who was not given a disk for Norton Antivirus software intalled on the computer. The program will not run now. There are files in the program directory \program files\Norton Antivirus but windows is not set up to run the software from any icons. I ran file NAVW32.EXE by double clicking on it and the drive was scanned. But the virus software needs to be set up again so that updates can be downloaded for example.
Do you have any ideas for restoring the windows configuration?
If Norton (NAV) isn't accressable via Start; Programs then I'd strongly suggest that NAV is corrupted. If it is available a shortcut can be re-created on the desktop again. Uninstall it in Add/Remove Programs control panel, if possible (remove the Program Files folder if it is not in the Add/Remove Programs list) and go to http://www.grisoft.com and get free AVG Anti-virus if you live in a area of the world where it's free. It's free in most areas. Give them your valid email address as they send you an install code necessary for setup.
Scanning for virus on-line is best before install if you don't have a updated scanner loaded. Please see the following attachment for more information.
I apologise for stating something you already know.
