MS Exchange Server Migration

Hi Guys,

I'm shifting my MS Exchange 5.5 database, config etc across to another server. I'm confident about doing it, but has anyone come accrosss any pitfalls when trying to do this?

Is there anything I should watch out for in particular?

• Do a test restore of your backup before doing anything else
• You can either add a new Exchange Server to the Organisation and move all mailboxes & public folders to that before removing the old box or..
• You can do a restore to a new server that is going to replace the old server and will have the same name.

The most important thing is the verified backup. Using a second server in the organisation will reduce downtime for your users while restoring to a new server will give you the option of testing while still being able to go back to a known working server if you have any problems.
