[RESOLVED] Megaclick Malware!
Hey all,
I recently downloaded the Megaupload.com MegaManager and Megaupload Toolbar. It claims to have no spyware or malware, but it certainly does. Supposedly this only effects your computer if you install the Toolbar, which they sneak in to look like a "Terms of Agreement" kind of thing.
Whenever I enter a URL that I can't connect to, ex. www.dashkkjasdhfkjsdf.com, I am redirected to:
http://www.megaclick.com/404/error
Here is a copy of my HJT log --

I don't see much here, but let's make sure...
BTW, did you uninstall Megaupload?
Print these instructions out.

* An icon will be created on your desktop. Double-click that icon to launch the program.
* If asked to update the program definitions, click "Yes". If not, update the definitions before scanning by selecting "Check for Updates". (If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download and unzip them from here: http://www.superantispyware.com/definitions.html.)
* Close SUPERAntiSpyware.
PHYSICALLY DISCONNECT FROM THE INTERNET
Restart computer in Safe Mode.

* Back on the main screen, under Scan for Harmful Software click Scan your computer.
* On the left, make sure you check C:\Fixed Drive.
* On the right, under Complete Scan, choose Perform Complete Scan.

* After the scan is complete, a Scan Summary box will appear with potentially harmful items that were detected. Click OK.
* Make sure everything has a checkmark next to it and click Next.
* A notification will appear that Quarantine and Removal is Complete. Click OK and then click the Finish button to return to the main menu.
* If asked if you want to reboot, click Yes.
* To retrieve the removal information after reboot, launch SUPERAntispyware again.
- Click Preferences, then click the Statistics/Logs tab.

Yup, I uninstalled it, even went through the registry and hard drive to find any files containing 'Megaclick' or 'Megaupload' and got rid of them. This is one annoying little piece of malware. Will be following your instructions strictly and will post back in a few. Thanks!

Hello,
I have solved the issue. Although I had uninstalled Megaupload and the Megaupload toolbar from my computer, gone through the registry and hard drive and deleted any files that involved Megaupload or Megaclick, I noticed that in Firefox, when right-clicking on the toolbars, I still had the option of enabling the Megaupload Toolbar. This was tricky to find, because it was not listed in the normal Firefox addons. I re-enabled the toolbar, clicked on one of the scroll-down menus, and selected Uninstall Megaupload Toolbar.
This eliminated my problem. Thanks for your time and help
FOR ANYONE WITH THIS PROBLEM (Firefox Users):
- Open up Mozilla Firefox
- Right click on the Navigation Toolbar (Toolbar with URL, Google Search...)
- Check 'Megaupload Toolbar'
- Click on the drop-down menu next to the Megaclick logo
- Select 'Uninstall Megaupload Toolbar'
- When prompted to restart Mozilla Firefox, accept
Hope that helps anyone with this problem
