Sleep, Restart, Startup Repair not working
I finally went out and bought a new HP Elite with Vista Premium installed. There are things I like and some I'm having a problem adjusting to. For now the main problems are:
1. When I put the PC in "Sleep Mode" it only lasts about 10 seconds and then comes back on to show the user account of the last person on the computer. I'm trying to use "Sleep Mode" instead of "Shutdown" at night.
2. When I do something that requires a "Restart" the computer freezes up while rebooting and I get a blank screen. I have to manually power off the computer count to 10 and turn it on. When I do this it goes to...
3. "Startup Repair" which never finds anything and naturally never fixes anything. When I look in "Problems and Solutions" in Control Panel, I never see anything that indicates there was a problem.
Also, I just want to know if there is a way to change the screensaver on the screen where you choose the user account you want to use. I had to set up 4 different accounts for my family to stop all the email from going into one box. Each family member has their own desktop and screensaver, but when no one is logged on it goes to a generic Windows screensaver. Can that be changed?
I know someone has the answer, you guys have never let me down.
Thanks in advance.

1. This article has some pretty good tips on handling sleep mode problems. Sorry I can't help more from experience...I don't use that mode. It also may be related to your #2 and #3 problem.
If you go to power options in the Control Panel, you might see that your computer is set to "go to sleep" after 20 minutes (default)...that's where that generic screensaver is being initiated. if you select "Never", then that feature is disabled.

Sleep mode not working - Resolved
Bistro,
I followed the instructions in your link and now have a functional "Sleep Mode". Thanks for the help.
SuperSparks,
Thank you for your input as well.
Neither solution took care of the "Restart" problem.
Anyone else?

If I were you, I wouldn't monkey around new computer, but I'd take it back to the store.
Where is one problem, there may be more (in the future).
