    Computer freezes during DVD playback

I am setting up an older hp machine for one of my young kids. I do not want to get fancy. I have a Pioneer DVD ROM drive that worked well enough before (I think....it was not my computer so I didn't use it.) This machine is not quite as fast and it has less RAM than the one that crashed. I am combining the two computers. One had a bad hd and the other has a bad video card. The attached screenshots show the setup that I have come up with. Do I just not have enough computer to properly run a DVD or do I have issues as a result of using salvage parts? Or is it something else entirely. Thanks for your help.

I wasn't sure if the screenshots show up properly so I attached the files as well.

You should be able to get DVDs to play, I think. If you have a bottleneck, it's the vid card. That thing is eight years old!

I see your point. This is the on-board video that is built in to the mother board so it probably is pretty old. I may look into finding an add-on vid card. Like I mentioned, this is a computer that I have salvaged from a couple of crashed machines. I have never really thought much about capabilities. If it works it works. (and if it doesn't I come here!) What is the minimum that I should look for (used parts are the only option for this as anything new is more money than I want to spend on an 11 year olds computer) ? Thanks for the reply.

    Its integrated. The Intel 82810.
May or may not work with another video card.
    I think it is doubtful.
Plus, then you have to find the correct drivers for the card and Windows ME.
    The "Mistake Edition"

A decent video card will run you about 40-50 bucks.
    Might work, might not.

You have to ask yourself if it is worth that much on an 11 year old computer.
What is the current resale value of an 11 year old computer?
    That would be about zero.

    Not worth investing in it

I would cruise around rummage sales and colleges. It sounds like what you really need is one more crummy computer that's only seven or eight years old.
    Or you can buy something:
    Suggestion for AGP - $24:

and if you need PCI - $29:
