I used CleanSweep 95 on my Compaq Presario 7240 last month.cleanSweep wiped out Windows 95 from this computer. I then bought a Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000 master boot disk on ebay, and hoped my problems were over. This reboot disk tells me that Windows 98 is starting, but then keeps giving me nasty messages such as:
No CD-Rom drive found.
The device driver is not installed.
CD-Rom not detected, driver not loaded.
I then get:
Drive Read cache Write cache Buffering
A Yes No No
B Yes No No
C Yes No -
D Yes No No
The memor-resident portion of SMARTDive is loaded.
A:\>_ (Question: What on earth do I type here?)
Thanks,

Hi Prov
What you got is exactly that a boot disk which BTW you could have got free from many freeware websites.
What its basically telling you is that it cannot load a driver for the CDRom due to it not being able to cofigure the connection.
wiped out Windows 95 from this computer
Please explain further your problem.Do you mean it wont boot into windows?
Do you have a 95 install CD or set of floppies at all?

1) You didn't really need to buy a Master Boot Disk. You can download programs to recreate them, (Windows 95, 98, Me, etc.), for you from http://www.bootdisk.com (Click the link at the end of "DOS/Windows9X/Me/NT/2K/XP Excellent Bootdisks", then click the "Windows 98 SE OEM" link).
2) What's the goal? If it's to install Windows 95, boot from a Windows 98SE, (yes 98), bootdisk and select "With CD-ROM Support". Watch the screen as the computer is booting up so you can see which drive letter is assigned to your CD-ROM drive, (probably "E:"). Insert your Windows 95 CD in your CD-ROM drive, at the A:\> prompt, type e:\setup.exe and press [Enter]. (If your CD-ROM drive is assigned a drive letter other than "E:", substitute it in place of that "e:"). With any luck you'll see the Windows 95 Setup start. Just follow the on-screen instructions from there.
Note: If your CD-ROM drive is not recognized by the Windows 98SE Boot Diskette, your CD-ROM drive is way to old. Trying to find the correct DOS drivers for it and then get them installed correctly and running on the bootdisk can be a real pain.

Smartdrive, etc.
Thanks to your prompt reply, Spyware. I was able to download Windows 95 onto a floppy disk. However, I don't know what to type once it gives me the A:> prompt. Could you give me step-by-step instructions on this?
My other option is using the Smartdrive function from the master boot disk I ordered. After it shows me the cache configuration, it gives me an A:>. Could you also give me step-by-step instructions about what to type here?
Thanks for your help and patience.

Even if you are (re)installing Windows 95, you want the Windows 98 SE Boot Disk.- Go back to http://www.bootdisk.com
- Click the link at the end of "DOS/Windows9X/Me/NT/2K/XP Excellent Bootdisks"
- On the next page, click the "Windows 98 SE OEM" link.
- When the download is complete, double-click the just downloaded file to create your Windows 98 SE Boot Disk.
- Boot the system with the Windows 98 SE Boot Disk.
- When the Windows 98 SE Menu comes up, select "With CD-ROM Support".
- Watch the screen as the computer is booting up so you can see which drive letter is assigned to your CD-ROM drive, (probably "E:").
- Insert your Windows 95 CD in your CD-ROM drive
- At the A:\> prompt, type
e:\setup.exe and press [Enter].
(If your CD-ROM drive was assigned a drive letter other than "E:", substitute it in place of that "e:").
- With any luck you'll see the Windows 95 Setup start.

Dear Spyware,
What if I don't have a Windows 95 CD-Rom, but only a Windows 95 startup disk?
Thanks,

If the intent is to install Windows 95, once you've booted your computer from any bootable floppy diskette, you will need either the Windows 95 CD or the complete set of Windows 95 floppy diskettes.
Windows 95 came on either CD-ROM or a set of floppy diskettes. (The CD-ROM version contained additional files that were not on the floppy disk version. These files included additional accessories such as an Online User's Guide and Windows 95 Tour, administrative tools, wallpaper, and other miscellaneous tools).
The Full (non-upgrade) version of Windows 95 included a bootable floppy disk.
The Upgrade version did not include a bootable floppy disk. (You must be able to boot from the computer's hard disk to install the Windows 95 Upgrade).
