Help trying to figure out the Tsr in my dos system
I'm doing some homework for school and one part of this is writing from the memory command a list of of the terminate and stay resident program or Tsr. The list that i'm getting from the mem commamd is:
ms dos
himem
dblbuff
ifshlp
win
vmm32
command
doskey
free
If somebody can give a little explanation, I would really appreciate it too. Thank you .

Hello Welcome to Virtual Dr.
Many IT people come here asking for help....don't stay away!
Anyhoo...
The Tech Web site's encyclopedia description of TSR...
Just type in " tsr ", and there you go !
For your specific tsr's do a search at a good engine, like www.google.com for each term, you'll find more than enough answers.
have fun
Dave

> ms dos- MSDOS.SYS is one of two hidden system files that make up the heart of your Microsoft (MS) Disk Operating System (DOS). The other is IO.SYS (Input/Output).
> himem- HIMEM.SYS is a Microsoft extended-memory manager -- a program that coordinates the use of your computer's extended memory, including the high memory area (HMA).
> dblbuff- DBLBUFF.SYS is a Microsoft device driver that performs double buffering. Double buffering provides compatibility for certain hard-disk controllers that cannot work with memory provided by EMM386 or Windows running in 386 Enhanced mode.
> ifshlp- Microsoft's IFSHLP.SYS enables file and print sharing and facilitates 32-bit disk access.
> win- WIN.COM is the program that launches Microsoft Windows.
> vmm32- VMM32.VXD is Microsoft Windows' 32-bit Virtual Memory Manager. VMM32.VXD takes over memory management tasks from HIMEM.SYS. HIMEM.SYS can only address the first 64 MB of memory. VMM32.VXD can address more than 64 MB of memory.
> command- COMMAND.COM is Microsoft's command interpreter, a program that lets you type commands at the DOS prompt.
> doskey- Microsoft's DOSKEY.EXE program recalls MS-DOS commands and enables you to edit command lines and create and run macros.
> free- The "Free" you see under the "Name" column when you use the "MEM/C/P" command is not a program. It is a row of information that tells you how much Free memory you have "Total", in "Conventional" and in "Upper Memory".
