    In a word NO!

It appears that AOL 3.0 may be the best you can do:

In three words, Yes and No!

The little insert that comes with the AOL7.0 CD says:
    1. Insert the CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive.
    2. Click Start (Windows 3.1 users click on the File menu of your Windows Program Manager) then select Run.
    3. Type D:\SETUP or E:\SETUP and press OK. Follow the easy instructions and you'll be online in minutes!

However, the Setup will determine the version of Windows you have and will install AOL3.0 automatically if you are running Windows 3.1. Because you got the error to "check the path", you apparently used the wrong drive letter for your CDROM drive when attempting to access the SETUP on the AOL7.0 CD.

So, while Eeyore appears to be correct in that AOL3.0 is the best you can do, the actual reason for the error you received was not related to your Windows version.

having internet on windows 3.1 is pointless, jpegs and gifs wont show, i dont think unless your special and can get them to work besides the computer running windows 3.1 is prolly only like 10 mhz and only 8 megs of ram so it would be pointless to even have the computer, but hey it would be cool to expirement with

If you cannot see images while surfing, you either need to 'enable images' or install a better browser.

Well, I've been playing around with a 486DLC-40 with 16MB of RAM, and yes, it is painfully slow to surf the internet on it, even with a DSL connection. The .GIFs and .JPGs show up, but sometimes it seems that grass grows faster than the machine can render a .JPG... It's even worse on a 386DX!

But, it's still possible-- and 10 years ago those machines were considered cutting-edge! Granted, websites weren't nearly as elaborate back then...

I guess I do it because I love a challenge...
