    Incredibly Irritating Problem...

    I have been playing games over my network steady for a while now, out of nowhere, I lose all ability to connect to anyone's server, or host one that others can see. While I can see the server in some games, but not join, other games show no sign of me even being connected to the network at all. I can connect to the internet, showing signs of life in my TCP protocols, and I can also see everyone in my network neighborhood. The ironic thing is, that the ONE thing that I wish to do most, play any game over my network, is the one thing that is impossible at this point, PLEASE someone tell me anything that might allow me to solve this problem!

    Also, I hope this may help, I think this problem may coincide with the failed install and the removal of AOL 9.0. I don't know if there is a possible affiliation, but it is the only thing that I have done recently.

    Right click on Network Neighborhood/My Network Places, depending on which OS, go to Properties. There are probably some AOL entries still there. Go ahead and remove them.

    Sorry about this, but I forgot to mention that I had reverted back to the still existant aol 8.0 after removing the 9.0 program, all AOL entries are in place due to necessity. Any more suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    If you're using Win 98 and the problem happened within the last 5 days, then do a scanreg /restore at a command prompt(not within Windows).
    If you're using Win ME or XP, then do a system restore.

    If that does not work, then uninstall AOL 8.0, and reinstall it(See if someone you know has an AOL 8.0 install CD before doing this).

    I tried the scanreg/restore, like you said, but when I tried to restore a previous date, it acted like it was going to, but then said restore failed. I tried this on multiple dates, all of which failed. I will try re-installing my aol software and hope for the best. Any more suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    PS - Thanks Ski, this restore function is a great thing to know about! I just wish I could count on it working.

    MrMalto, go back to DOS and run scanreg again, with a space after the 'G' then the '/fix' switch.
    (scanreg /fix) this sometimes works when 'restore' doesn't...
